Additional Information: | This 1-story Contemporary gas station was constructed in 1968. It is gabled ell in plan with composition board and brick veneered walls and an asphalt-shingled gable roof. The front elevation faces east and is asymmetrical in plan with no fenestration in the fagade of the front-gabled mass and a window wall located around the front entrance of the side-gabled mass. Three heavy rafter ends are located along the gables of the north elevation. A large brick chimney mass is located along the north elevation and projects through the roofline. The building is in good condition and retains a fairly high degree of integrity. As a Contemporary building, it is distinguished by is wide exterior chimney, mixed wall material, exposed rafter ends, and window wall. Although the building is clearly representative of Contemporary mid-century architecture, this manifestation of the style is fairly common to filling stations of the 1960s and 70s and is not individually unique or distinctive within the context of such buildings in Racine or the surrounding neighborhood. This building has not been previously surveyed. A new AHI record was created. |
