The Village Common, also known as Common Park was donated to Lake Mills by Chester Patterson in 1842, the same year the village was platted. The park is a four-acre triangular parcel that is bound by North Main Street to the west, East Lake Street to the south, and East Madison Street to the northeast. A sidewalk and terrace separate the park space from the adjacent streets. The park currently consists of a mixture of open mowed areas, clusters of mature deciduous trees, modern commemorative plaques, picnic tables, benches, a War Veterans Memorial, c.1995 band shelter, 1984 shelter building, and c.1985 restroom facility. Metal lamp posts with decorative lanterns are located in the terrace around the park.
