NOTES
Additional Information:This one-story, front-gabled, Colonial Revival-style building with raised basement is constructed of hollow tile and sheathed with red brick. The datestone at the building’s southwest corner reads “1934.” The building is entirely symmetrical in design and features a gabled entrance projection that is accentuated with return eaves, brick corner quoining and a full pediment with dentil trim. The classical, wood-trimmed entrance includes a fanlight transom with additional dentil trim and a pair of modern metal and glass doors. A single, six-over-six, double hung sash is located to either side of the doorway, while a single porthole window is found along both the north and south sides of the gabled projection. Both the north and south elevations of the main block include a series of six, multiple-light windows along the first floor, with the easternmost example on both sides being shorter than the other five. The basement level includes pairs of regularly placed windows; many of which have been either partially or fully infilled with glass block. An additional entry is located along the building’s south elevation. The rear (west) elevation includes two additional doors, as well as three basement-level windows. Alterations to the structure include the following: the roofline has been altered from a central flat section to a fully gabled example; wholesale window and door replacement; and the south stoop has been modified to include a ramp entrance. Although the interior could not be accessed at the time of the site visit, the glass doors provided a clear view of the interior, which confirmed that the original wooden floor was intact, as was the stage area at the east end. A telephone conversation with the interim town clerk, confirmed that the ticket booth and balcony seating also remain intact.

This building, designed by the Sheboygan firm of Satre & Senescall, was constructed in 1934 as the Wilson Town Hall. The building was host to a variety of activities, including basketball games, dances, plays, as well as for its function as a town meeting hall. The lower level includes kitchen facilities and bathrooms. Local labor was utilized for the building’s construction. The structure continues to function as the town hall meeting location; however, new town administrative offices are located south of the building and across a small parking lot.
