NOTES
Additional Information:This root cellar, constructed c.1920, is an underground building covered by a raised earthen mound with its long axis running east-west. A single-story concrete entrance at the east end has a wood door. A row of five ventilators runs along the centerline of the mound, flanked by two additional pairs at the east end and the center. The ventilators have concrete walls, concrete gable roofs, and metal louvers. A concrete shed with an asphalt gable roof is located at the west end of the building.

Based on research, the building was historically part of a larger complex on an agricultural parcel owned by the Waupun Canning Company. It was likely used to store crops for the canning company which may have included beets, carrots, or potatoes. Without interior review surveyors were unable to confirm whether it retains its original storage configuration. The root cellar is located on property now owned by the State Department of Corrections and used as a firing range. Access was not permitted during the site visit and field survey activities were conducted from the public right of way.
