Additional Information: | The gambrel roofed barn with slightly flared eaves, built circa 1890s-1910s, was reported to have moved to this site in 1939, from its original location in Adams County about 25 miles away. It has horizontally-oriented wood siding and asphalt shingle roofing, on a poured concrete slab foundation. The divided light windows in the gambrel ends are very deteriorated, and it has a small cupola with louvered vent panels. Board fencing at the south side of the barn creates pens for livestock. At the rear are a lean-to shed for equipment storage, and a weathered pole barn shelter structure with a very low-pitched corrugated metal roof. The property includes other utility and storage buildings, sheds and bins that are not eligible. The property is not currently operated as a farm, but its fields are rented out for agricultural use. The farmhouse, although modified, retains integrity as an example of farm housing from the early 20th century. While it has been relocated from its original site, the barn is a fairly rare example of an early barn in this area. Additional WHS AHI records for this location are #229703, 229714. |
