Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. 1975:ONE BAY SERVICE STATION WITH SYMMETRICAL OFFICE FACADE. HIP ROOF OVER OFFICE AND SERVICE BAY. 2010:Previously cited as built in 1922, the date of which is noted as having been supplied by an employee. Tax rolls indicate it was built in 1925. Oriented to the southwest corner of the lot and built in 1925, this one-bay, house-style service station is comprised of an enclosed office topped with a hipped roof that extends to serve as a canopy. The lower half of the office is sheathed with brick, while the upper wall space is sheathed with stucco. A wood-and-glass door is flanked by single, three-over-one windows along its southeast elevation, while a grouping of three similar windows occupy both the northwest and southeast elevations. Two metal poles support the canopy. An historic photograph indicates that, like the office portion, the original canopy supports were stucco and rested on brick piers, while globe-type, light fixtures ringed the underside of the overhanging canopy. The three gas pumps have also since been removed. Statement of Significance This former gas station, known as the Pulaski Service Station and which carried Sinclair gasoline, was originally built by Vincent Zielinski in 1925. It continued under the Zielinski family's ownership with their daughter Agnes, while it was run by Leonard Mroczynski. It ceased serving as a gas station in 1989, the same year that Agnes passed away. The structure is currently utilized as an office for the Pulaski Area Chamber of Commerce. |
