Additional Information: | GABLED BLDG W/SEGMENTAL ARCH WINDOWS. ADDITIONS INCLUDE A GRAIN ELEVATOR. Additional map code RAA S2. F roll negatives filed with Fox River Valley Survey project. OAHP INVENTORY (06/1979): The company actually started in 1909 with the beginning of the railroad through Pulaski. The Pokopavitz's started on a small scale by shipping the area farmer's barley grain to Milwaukee in the railroad cars. Eventually, in 1919, they built a grain elevator and hired three employees. A few years later they started dealing in corn instead of barley and they even added a cold storage building for cabbage and potato storage. Ten years later, the cold storage part of the company ended and the grain mill part was expanded to its now standing dimensions of 448' x 56'. The elevator is constructed of metal sheets while the adjoining structures are made of wood and stone. The roof of the structure is mainly a medium gable. The windows are segmental arch constructed with wood lugsills. In the process of being demolished in 2017. |
