Additional Information: | July-August 2001-This two-story frame house features interesting gambrel roofs and a square tower with a pyramidal roof that project over the front of the house and a brick lower story. This eclectic house is characterized by an open two-story porch with a spindle railing on the upper story, arched openings and decorative posts. It is further characterized by elaborate arched window head ornament on the second story windows and door as well as stained glass over lights in the arched window in the front gambrel end and in a large second story window on the west elevation. Round arched windows light the brick lower story and plain rectangular windows are on the upper floor. A two-story addition with an open front porch is attached to the east elevation. Queen Anne stylistic devices apparently were used to remodel this Italianate style house, which was built before the 1887 Sanborn Map was published. A one-story east wing was increased to a two-story addition between 1904 and 1910 and the one-story front porch on the main block became a two-story porch between 1910 and 1930. This eclectic house does not meet the criteria of the National Register for architectural significance (Criterion C) because it is not a good example of its style or a significant example of a type of construction. |
