Additional Information: | FIRST STORY ALTERD. SYMMETRICAL SECOND STORY WITH CORBEL TABLE AND CENTRAL PILASTERS. CONTINUOUS STONE LINTELCOURSE. 2021 - Resurveyed. This two-story commercial vernacular building was constructed in 1891. It is clad mostly in red brick and has a flat roof with parapet wall. The altered storefront level is clad in a mixture of modern cream and brown brick and contains two storefronts separated by a central bay with a secondary entrance. Each storefront has a central recessed canted entrance flanked by large display windows. A metal pent roof is located between the first and second stories, and there is a modern store sign above the east retail space. The second story contains a row of tall window openings accented by a continuous stone lintel and sill. One-over-one replacement windows fill the bottom half of the openings, and the top halves are boarded up. The building is topped with a stepped parapet consisting of three main sections separated by simple brick pilasters. The central parapet section is distinguished by brick columns that extend above the rest of the parapet. It contains several decorative brick elements. The words “UNION 1891 BLOCK” are inscribed across the frieze on stone plaques. |
