Additional Information: | SYMMETRICAL FACADE, PEDIMENTAL ARCHES OVER TALL WINDOWS, DOOR WITH ETCHED GLASS DESCRIPTION: This rare hip roof one story clapboard, house is designed n a vernacular Classical/Revival style that is expressed symmetrically and elegantly with the house's proportions and windows. The front facade is symmetrical and features two 2/2 windows placed on either side of the doorway with gabled overdoor. The original oak door with a acid-etched glass window with a landscape design is intact. Each tall and narrow window has a well proportioned pedimental molding that together is the house's most attractive feature. Very early roofing materials are in place and a narrow pilaster is at each corner. The projecting eaves are met at the wall by a continuous frieze that wraps around the house, whose decorative elements and symmetrical facade are derived from classical precedents. SIGNIFICANCE: This vernacular Classical Revival house is architecturally significant as a locally rare example of this style expressed on a very small and otherwise modest house. 2016: House has since been entirely re-sheathed with vinyl and windows replaced; addition to side. |
