| Additional Information: | ROUND ARCH AND ROUND WINDOWS. STATUE OF JESUS W/CHILD & INSCRIPTION 'IN MEMORY OF THE PIONEERS'. Gable with tower round arched windows and door; square entrance tower flanking facade with bracketed pyramidal roof; large stained glass window in facade; round buttress flanking facade; foundation stone work similar to houses at 206 and 210 E. Central (18-27; 18-26). Built partly as a memorial chapel and partly as the fulfillment of Father Goldsmith's wishes, the Goldsmith Chapel was constructed of preswed brick an white stone trimmings in the round arch Romanesque Revival style in 1894. (A) Designed by local architect H.F. Allen, (A) the Goldssmith Chapel design includes a prominent square entrance tower, gabled facade and round buttress as well as round arched entrance portal and a large arched front stained glass window occupying a large area of the facade. An excellent example of a small Romanesque Revival Chpael, the Goldsmith Chpael was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on April 4, 1983 as part of a Notre Dame Multiple Nomination. Father D.F.X. Goldsmith arrived in Chippewa Falls in May, 1869. He was the first pastor of the Notre Dame Parish, established in 1885. He was the driving force behind the establishment of the school, convent, school library and many organizations. He also served smaller communities in nearby rural areas and frequently visited the lumber camps in the north to minister to the lumberyards. Father Goldsmith died in 1890.
