Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Front view of dam taken from Bridge Street bridge and rear view taken from Main Street bridge. Construction date: 1926-1928. In a construction project costing $3,000,000, the Byllesby Engineering Company constructed a concrete dame across the Chippewa River. Constructed on the site of this old wooden dam of the Chippewa Lumber and Boom Company, the Northern States Power Dam needs further research in order to determine its architectural significance. AT TIME OF CONSTRUCTION, THIS WAS THE WORLD'S LARGEST CONCRETE DAM. INCLUDES THREE COMPONENTS: SLUICE GATE, NON-OVERFLOW BULKHEAD, GATED SPILLWAY. Additional map code 42-28. |
