Additional Information: | Two-story projecting gabled front bay with cornice returns; spindle two-sided front porch supported by turned posts with decorative capitals; cresting around truncated hip roof; north extension with gable roof and gablet; rear extension with spindle porch; segmental arched windows with brick voussoirs; ornamental angel figures on gable ends; frieze board cutaround archs. As one of the few brick houses built in Chippewa Falls, this vernacular house is important to the architectural variety of Chippewa Falls. According to a descendent, Joseph Edward Girard from Ste Ursule, Quebec, Canada, built this house as a wedding gift for his bride, Virginia LaMothe of Prairie du Chien, WI. He arrived in Chippewa Falls in 1882 along with his parents, Solomon Girard and Adeline DesRosiers Girard and siblings. |
