| Additional Information: | THREE ROUND ARCHES ACROSS FRONT. Although a photo dating from the time of construction has not yet been found, the earliest picture of the building, taken in the last part of the nineeenth century, shows the windows and door in the three arched openings looking the same as today. There is a date stone at the base of the main facade that reads "1881." Building was built in 1881 by Joel Pruyn, to house a grocery and drygoods store operated by his son, Joel M. Pruyn. In 1885, Joel Pruyn built a new and larger building across the street (157 S. Main Street) to house a drygoods store operated by his son, Judd M. Pruyn. Joel M. Pruyn's store building later became a meat market operated by L. P. Hinds. In 1923, the Lodi Enterprise newspaper moved into the building and continues to occupy it today (2007). |
