NOTES
Additional Information:1/2 ROUND BLIND WINDOW IN GABLE,SPINDLED PORCHES. This fine brick gable ell house was built for John Foote, one of the earliest settlers of Lodi, and a considerable landowner in the surrounding area. The brick walls are now painted but the house is otherwise largely intact. House has been in the same family from 1917-2001. Although the date of this house is variously given as 1848 or 1857, no documentation was found to support them, although 1857 is a reasonable surmise. The house does show up on the 1874 Bird's Eye view as it is today, though, so a date prior to this is definite, which would also be indicated by the style of the house. "The land for the home was purchased from the U.S. Government in 1848 by John Foote. The brick for this Homestead style house came from the Merrimac brickyard across the Wisconsin River." Preservation Committee of the Lodi Valley Historical Society, Stepping Back: A Walking Tour of Historic Lodi Homes, 1995. 2020: The John Foote House (503 N. Main St.) is located next door to the Lewis House and it occupies a corner lot that is bounded by N. Main St. (WIS 113) and Chestnut St. The Foote House is a painted brick Gable Ell form house.
