Additional Information: | OPEN PARK SHELTER. [Date Cnst:(CORNERSTONE)]. Log walls removed and replaced by concrete pillars. Log gabled, knee braces, exposed beams and timber supports render roof; cobblestone fireplace with log mantle; set in bank along Wisconsin River. Related building: well house (48/32). 2015- "Riverside Park is a two-acre wayside park on East Wisconsin Street adjacent to the Wisconsin River levee. In addition to a walking/biking trail and green space, the park contains one structure, an open shelter that was originally constructed in 1924 as a fully walled rustic log cabin. The building was used as a place for tourists to stay overnight and as a community meeting hall. It included a kitchen, tables and chairs, and large fireplace. The walls of the cabin were removed in the 1980s due to threats of vandalism and arson. The current structure consists of the original gabled log roof now supported by six concrete block piers on a concrete slab foundation. Knee brackets support the roof’s wide eaves. The fireplace is still present, which features a prominent rubble stone chimney on the southeast gable end." -"USH 51/Wisconsin St/De Witt St: Southtown-E Pleasant", WisDOT#6918-01-02, Prepared by Commonwealth Heritage Group, Inc.
