2020: This farmstead consists of a two-story gabled ell farmhouse, barn, machine shed, and garage. The brick Greek Revival farmhouse (AHI No. 4487) was built c.1860 and is comprised of a two-story upright section and a one-story wing. It has a stone foundation and front-gable roof covered in asphalt shingles with gable returns and a wide cornice board; an exterior brick chimney is located on the side (west) elevation of the house. Windows include replacement, vinyl, one-over-one, double-hung sash; wood, one-over-one, double-hung sash; and vinyl, three-over-three, hung sash. All have painted brick lintels and shutters. A shed roof supported by square columns shelters the modern door on the front (south) facade of the upright two-story portion of the house; infilled brick and the remaining concrete lintel east of the existing entrance indicate that the original front door and porch were moved and replaced. A second modern entry door is located under a replacement shed roof porch on the one-story wing. A large two-story addition with vinyl siding and vinyl windows is located on the rear (north) elevation of the house. A smaller one-story addition with vinyl siding extends from the north elevation of the two-story addition, and a one-story enclosed porch with vinyl siding and a modern door and windows is located on the side (east) elevation of the two-story addition.
A c.1870 bank barn (AHI No. 131818) with a stone foundation, corrugated metal siding, replacement wood fixed windows, and a front-gable roof clad in metal stands east of the farmhouse; it has a milk house with a concrete foundation, corrugated metal siding, wood fixed windows, wood door, and a front-gable roof clad in asphalt shingles that extends from its front (south) facade. A c.2000 machine shed with metal siding and a metal roof is located east of the barn. A c.1930 garage with two garage bays and a metal roof stands north of the farmhouse.
The Glidden family, including Wilbur and William, owned the farmstead between 1861 and 1873. Between 1890 and 1955 the property was owned by the Crahen family. |
