NOTES
Additional Information:PHOTO OBSCURED BY TREES AND LARGE BARN W/ROUND ARCHED ROOF. Was the stable for first stagecoach stop, turned into a barn, torn down in early 2000s.

2015: "This limestone Greek Revival house was built c.1860. The side gable roof has composite shingles. A recessed entrance is located on the front (south) facade with a transom window. The roof has eave returns on the gable ends. The windows have been replaced and are smaller than the original openings, with wood infill surrounds. Each window has a solid stone sill and lintel. There is a brick chimney located on the south end of the house on the ridge of the roof. There are three separate additions located on the back (north) elevation. Attached to the house is a one-story c.1950 addition with a side-gable, asphalt-shingle roof. A centrally located entrance is on the south elevation with a wood ramp. The entrance is flanked by one-over-one, double-hung windows. An additional one-story c.1900 addition with a gable asphalt-shingle roof is attached to the north elevation of the first addition. The addition is clad in vertical wood plank siding, with no visible windows or doors. A third one-story c.1900 addition clad in vertical wood plan siding with a gable asphalt shingle roof is located on the second addition’s north elevation; it contains a centrally located chimney and has no visible windows or doors.

The property contains three outbuildings. A c.1950 metal grain bin (AHI# 230065) is located southwest of the house. A c.1910 wood shed clad in vertical wood plank siding is located west of the house. An entrance is located on the south elevation and two swinging garage doors are on the east elevation. Original windows were removed. A modern c.1990 single-story metal pole shed with a raised concrete foundation and water table is located northeast of the house. Two sliding metal garage doors are located on the south elevation. The large barn and silos visible in the 1977 survey photograph are now nonextant.

Research indicates that the house was likely constructed by Patrick Davidson, one of earliest settlers in the town of Verona. Davidson arrived in Verona in 1841 as part of a group of Scottish immigrants and is credited with importing the town’s first threshing machine from Scotland. By 1873 Davidson owned a number of parcels in the project area, including the subject property, which then consisted of 360 acres along the Sugar River in Section 33 with a house and adjacent stone quarry."
