Additional Information: | This two story residence has a four square shape and Princess Anne details. The exterior fabric is aluminum siding. The hip roof has pedimented gables and a box cornice. The foundation has a concrete wash surface material. The south or front side has two second story windows and a first story picture window. A small ell is formed by the west half of the house. A one story porch is on the east side. It has turned wood columns and sawn wood arches under a plain frieze. A pedimented gable on the west has a square window and angular fishscales. The fishscales form an arched bargeboard. BEhind this is a triangular bargeboard at the gable top and then the window. On the east side are two second story and one first story windows that rae irregularly placed. A door is on the first story south part. At the north section is a pedimented gable with a window and fishscales that form a triangular bargeboard from the tip of the gable. The rear or north side has a one story addition with a shed roof porch and entry door. The west side hsa the same pedimented gable as the east side. Two second story and two first story windows are on this side. Short evergreens and bushes are near the house. Trees are farther away. The lot extends ton the Willow River. This is not as deep a lot as many on this street since the river curves northward further on. The style of this residence suggests it was built post tornado (1899). It is a more basic style than many in the area but is very similar to the house just east of it (see SC20-15, 229 West First Street). This residence has retained much of its original integrity and in both style and size fits into the character of the district; even though it is not architecturally significant. A photo of this house and 229 West First Street (SC20-15) is included. This is SC35-31. |
