Additional Information: | Aluminum siding is the exterior fabric on this two story four square residence. The hip roof has asphalt shingles covering it. The plan is square with one story side and rear additions. There are endboards and a plain frieze. The south or front side has two paired 6/6 windows on the second story. A multi-panes picture window with shutters is on the east part of the first story. To the west of this is the entry under a flat roof porch that is part of the one story side addition. A wood railing is on top of this section. A paired 6/6 window with shutters in on the west part of this addition. On the east side of the house are four second story windows. The two in the center are square and have diamond shaped mullions. Shutters flank the first story windows. The window at the north edge is a three part picture window. The west side has a second story door leading to the porch (the top of the addition). A first story window is below this. A hip roof ell is at the middle of this side. On the second story is a window that has a semi-circular head with colored glass. The barn has clapboard exterior fabric and is 1 1/2 stories. The gable roof has a center wall dormer with fishscales on it. The plan is rectangular (see SC34-36). Landscaping consists of evergreens and bushes near the house. Some trees are placed farther away. The lot is a ong narrow one extending to the Willow River. This residence fits in well with the neighboring houses in size and massing. It contributes to the character of the area. It is not architecturally significant. In 1897 this proeprty belonged to W.S. Williams (See SC 20-13, 339 West First Street. For many years (post 1925 to the 1970s) it was Dr. Joshua H. Armstrong's home. Armstrong graduated from New Richmond High School in 1915. His medical degree was from Marquette University (1924). He set up a practice with F.S. Wade (see residence SC 20-20, 313 West First Street) in New Richmond in 1925. It was Dr. Armstrong who suggested to Margaret McNamara that she take in patients in her home (see SC29-26, 415 East Second Street). He practiced for many years (until 1966) at 103 North Knowles (see SC 25-7). The residence has no historical significance. Note: This house is shown in a trettscene with SC22-18 (105 S.
