In 1917, the New London Public Museum was formally founded as community members began donating items for local history. In 1932, the New London Public Museum was built next to the library. The estate of naturalist C.F. Carr provided the funding for the original museum building, as well as the core of the museum's original collection. Carr's collection included a selection of mounted animals, other natural specimens, Native American artifacts, a collection of volumes on birds, and more. In 1986, the museum and library were joined. Resurveyed 2020. Update photo. DOE recommended pursuant to "potentially eligible" designation in AHI. |
