Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Two storied, low gable; wide porch; second floor pops out of center. "Airplane Bungalow." 2022: This 1 ½ story bungalow was constructed in 1915. It is rectangular in plan with walls clad in stone veneer and fiber-cement siding, and a synthetic-membrane-clad, low-pitched gable roof that features multiple intersecting gables. Widely overhanging eaves feature wood beams and brackets. The front elevation faces northwest and is asymmetrical in composition. A recessed porch wraps around the north corner of the house; the porch features squared supports and knee walls, all of which are clad in stone veneer. The entrance to the porch is located at its north corner. Inside the porch, the northwest wall of the house contains an original glazed door (featuring a center-light-with-border design) and a large pair of 1-over-1 windows. A low-pitched gablet is located above the northwest side of the porch. A very small upper story addition (constructed after 1927) projects from the center of the roof; this is clad in clapboard and features a low-pitched gable roof with overhanging eaves and heavy brackets. A bank of four narrow, multi-pane windows is located in the northwest side of the upper addition. The stone veneer was added to the porch and northwest elevation sometime between 1927 and 1976 (based on Sanborn maps and previous WHPD photos); all other elevations are clad in newer fiber-cement siding (likely a replacement for earlier asbestos siding of similar appearance). |
