NOTES
Additional Information:Historical Background

This summer residence was constructed in 1921-22 for Vilray and Katherine Blair and was known as Blaircliff. The Rogers family acquired this property sometime after the mid-1930s. The Tudor house next door [9205 Cottage Row, 335-28] was originally the guest house for this property and had a garage in the basement where the family boat was stored in the winter.

Historical Significance

As with the other summer residences on Cottage Row, this property represents the pattern of living of wealthy urban midwesterners seeking to escape the heat of the cities. Mothers and children would spend the entire summer in Fish Creek, while the fathers would visit as their business schedules would allow. In some cases, several generations and family branches would share the same house.

Architectural Description

This 1921-22 summer residence is essentially a large two story cube with a big two story sunporch section changing the proportions. Like others on Cottage Row, it is large and airy with a lot of sleeping room. It is somewhat similar in feel to 9233 Cottage Row [35/25] in its exposed rafters and casement windows.

Architectural Significance

The home was only intended for summer use.
