Additional Information: | The F in the photo codes is for Fox Canal Survey. This structure contributes to the significance of the Broadway-Huron Street Historic District under criterion C as a component of a unified grouping of transitional Italianate-Victorian Gothic commercial structures sharing a common cornice line and second story window treatment. This structure has a grouping of three segmentally-arched windows at the second story level to distinguish it from its neighbors. This building was built around 1890 and oriiginally occupied by T.W. Wood and Son, who specialized in dry goods and groceries. According to city directories and Sanborn-Perris Fire Insurance Maps it remained a grocery store up to 1915. An advertisement in the 1892 City Directory for T.W. Wood and Son states that they manufacture galvanized cornices, eaves trough, cheese vats and cans and that they also are dealers in dairy supplies. |
