The First National Bank is designed in the Neoclassical style and was built in 1897. It features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a concrete block and cut stone foundation, a brick and stone exterior, and a flat roof with a parapet. The trim materials include granite, stone, metal and concrete. The bank building, which is in good condition, now functions as both a bank and as private offices.

Historical Background:

The First National Bank of Berlin was established in 1876 as a private bank by George Sacket, George Fitch and D. C. Palmeter. The bank was reorganied as the First National Bank of Berlin in 1891. A major fire destroyed the builidng in 1897 and a new bank was constructed. The bank expanded into two adjacent storefronts, one in 1914 and the other in 1922. Henry Auler designed the expansions.
