Additional Information: | This one story Neogothic Revival styled church is in good condition, featuring an irregular shaped plan configuration, a granite stone foundation, and a brick exterior. Trim materials are stone, wood, brick and concrete, while the multi-gabled roof and tower are covered with tile. Related buildings include those found in the Oakwood Cemetery (GL 21/20-22, 25-27). Architectural/Engineering Significance: This structure contributes to the significance of the Oakwood Cemetery Historic District under Criterion C as an outstanding and unusual example of a Neogothic style funerary chapel of particularly picturesque form. This handsome 20th century structure is notable for its quality materials, fine craftsmanship and masterful composition. The Griffity Memorial chapel is the focal point of the Oakwood Cemetery Historic District, which contains several contributing accessory buildings including the handsome stone gateway and the public restroom pavillion. |
