Additional Information: | This Colonial Revival styled house features an irregular shaped plan configuration, a granite stone and concrete block foundation, a clapboard and wood shingled exterior, a wood trim and an asphalt shingled multi-gabled roof with dormers. Serving as an entrance bay to a balcony, the front dormer is capped by a pediment detailed with wood shingles and a carved starburst. Dentil cornice moulding appears beneath this pediment, and at one time, the door and windows of this dormer were separated by paneled pilasters. Carved modillion-like brackets line the eaves along the side elevation as well and along the front porch. This porch has fluted Tuscan columns, a balustraded railing and a wooden porch base. A brick chimney, a Paladian window and a front bay are other architectural elements. The residence is in good condition and currently serves as an apartment building. Architectural/Engineering Significance: This structure contributes to the significance of the Nathan Strong Park Historic District under Criterion C as an excellent example of a handsome Colonial Revival one and one half story cottage with fine detailing including the handsome classical front porch and modillion cornices. Other than the loss of the original front doorway and the railing at the second story balcony, the house has been little altered. |
