Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This two and one half story Queen Anne styled house features an irregular shaped plan configuration, a rock faced concrete block and stone foundation, a clapboard and wood shingled exterior, a wood trim and an asphalt shingled gable and hip roof. Adorning the attic story are gabled pediments, each with a singular window or a bank of windows, and a semicircular arch. A two sided front porch is partially screened; its hipped roof is supported by Tuscan columns. Dentil trim distinguishes the porch cornice. The residence is in poor condition. A related building is a garage (GL 27/12). Architectural/Engineering Significance: This structure contributes to the significance of the Nathan Strong Park Historic District under Criterion C as a good example of a large, Free Classic phase late Queen Anne house with a fine Tuscan columned wrap-around veranda. The house has been little altered since its construction except for the construction of a matching attached garage in the 1920's. |
