NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This two story Queen Anne house features an irregular shaped plan configuration, a granite stone foundation, a clapboard and wood shingled exterior, a wood trim and an asphalt shingled gable and hip roof. Attic story pediments each contain wood shingles, a semi-circular window and an elaborate gable ornament. A front porch is shed roofed and pedimented, with decorative details including bracketed and turned porch columns, a balustrade and a spindled frieze. Almost identical to it are other smaller porches at the side elevation. A wide, wood shingled band course separates the first and second stories. Other architectural elements include a corner turret, a shed roofed dormer, and flat arched window lintels. The residence is in poor condition. A related building is a carriage barn (GL 28/34). Architectural/Engineering Significance: This structure contributes to the significance of the Nathan Strong Park Historic District under Criterion C as a good example of a rambling Queen Anne house of highly picturesque composition. The house illustrates remarkable design integrity in its retention of so many decorative wooden features including numerous spindlework porches, gable ornaments, and fancy cut shingling. At the rear of the house is a large and little altered carriage barn.
