Additional Information: | Garage. This property is locally significant under Criterion C as a well-preserved Greek Revival style frame gabled ell. This is perhaps the best preserved example of a working class, frame house of this type in Berlin. This is notable because this type of house formed the backbone of the town's early residential architecture, but practically none have retained as much of their original design integrity as this one. Even though this house had its original windows replaced in late Victorian times, it still illustrates how pioneer housewrights using oly plain board stock lumber and an inherent understanding of proportion could achieve a dignified and pleasing Greek Revival composition for even a modest dweling like this. |
