NOTES
Additional Information:2019 -
The two-story farmhouse consists of two parts constructed between c.1860 and 1931. The front (east) portion of the house was built c.1860 in the gable ell form. The rear (west) side-gable addition of the house was added in 1931 along with the middle connecting portion. The entire farmhouse has vinyl siding and an intersecting gable roof covered in asphalt shingles with a central brick chimney. Windows include wood, four-over-four, double-hung sash with aluminum storms and wood porthole windows in the gable ell ends. A bay with three modern, four-over-four, hung sash windows protrudes from the side (south) elevation. A wood-paneled entry door with sidelights and a transom is located on the ell portion of the front facade. A front porch stretches across two-thirds of the facade with Ionic columns supporting its flat roof and replacement lattice railing; a modern secondary entrance door is located within the porch. A second porch with Ionic columns and a shed roof extends across the connecting portion’s side (south) elevation. A large 1931 stable with a front-gable roof covered in asphalt shingles, vertical wood siding, sliding wood doors, and wood hung sash windows is located to the west of the farmhouse.

The eastern wing of the house was constructed c.1860. The O’Malley family owned and farmed on the property from before 1873 through the 1920s. Any agricultural buildings that existed during this period are no longer extant. The State of Wisconsin purchased the property by 1931 and used it as a rehabilitation facility for residents of the nearby State Hospital. The State expanded the house to its current footprint to accommodate a dining hall and dormitory for the residents. The State also constructed the 1931 stable and a large 1931 dairy barn (nonextant) to support the facility. The State Hospital ran the property as a dairy farm where residents worked. In the 1950s the farm reverted to private ownership. The family used it as a dairy farm until about 1970, then focused on raising crops. The farmhouse has since been separated into multiple rental units.

GREEK REVIVAL DOORWAY. THIS VERY LARGE FORMER FARMHOUSE IS CLAD IN BRICK BUT HAS BEEN RECLAD IN ALUMINUM OR VINYL SINCE FIRST SURVEYED.
