| Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. This building is typical of a small railroad passenger station of the period. Done in the Craftsman style, it is severely plain and utilitarian with the only accent being an eyebrow dormer in the hipped roof. The present boarded condition hides much of the original detail that could be present in doors and windows. It is of architectural interest as a local example of a common utilitarian building type. It is the only extant railroad station in the City. This depot replaced another depot that was located about a block away. In 1971, the building was converted into a tavern known as the Railroad Inn, which operated until 1977. After standing vacant for several years, it was occupied by Cherryland Brewery (and restaurant) from 1987 to 2000, followed by Dal Santos Restaurant. While being used as a restaurant, an addition was constructed on the west side (rear) for a kitchen and bathrooms, using the original passenger canopy as a roof. |
