Additional Information: | Elements of the early and original courthouse can be seen only at the side elevations of the present courthouse building complex. Those elements which remain are the brickwork detailing (now painted a uniform tan) of the window caps, and the cornice and other corbelling. The additions and modifications to the once ornate "Victorian" building with its high central tower (now removed) have compromised the original architectural integrity of this oldest civic building in the City. It is of some architectural interest, however, because of the limited amount of detailing that remains. While the courthouse is, of course, significant in the history of the development of Door County, so little of the original building remains. For this reason, the present structure was felt to be not of historical significance. |
