Additional Information: | This frame residential structure has been substantially altered over time and is no longer of any historic architectural interest. The Federal Government constructed this lighthouse in 1881 when the Sturgeon Bay-Lake Michigan Canal opened. It warned vessels of the dangerous Dunlap Reef. In 1924 the lighthouse was obsoleted by automatic devices and sold to Ruben Dickenson. Dickenson moved the structure to S. Fourth Avenue minus the light tower and beacon. Dickenson resided in the building for many years and passed it to his son-in-law Milton Ahrens. |
