Additional Information: | This ornately detailed residential structure is two-story variation on the square-in-plan, hipped roof vernacular house that is common throughout the City. This building is of particular interest, however, because of the detailing which remains. The eaves are accented with a scroll-sawn cornice drapery in a wide fluer-de-lis pattern and accented at the corners with turned drop-finials. The porch roof is supported by turned and bracketed posts (the banister and railing have been removed) while the spandrels between the posts are pierced with drill-work. A simple pediment accents the entry of the porch steps. The door and windows have moulded lintels and the front door hsa a double window that is heavily moulded and topped with semicircular qarches. Lattice-work forms the porch apron. Asbestos siding hides nearly all other textural detail but what remains is of architectural interest--particularly the cornice drapery which while not rare elsewhere, is unique in the City. |
