It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2022: Building moved to the Rock County Historical Society grounds 6/4/2016. This diminutive frame house with clapboard siding exhibits features of the Greek Revival style. Built in 1853, this schoolhouse was named in honor of pioneer educator Frances Willard. Built by Frances Willard's father on his farm, and Frances taught here one term. Later, she became famous as leader of Women's Christian Temperance Union. From the 1977 National Register Nomination: "In 1969 the Rock County W.C.T.U. donated the school and original property, near the Rock River on Janesville's southern outskirts, to the Rock County Historical Society. The school was moved in 1970 and stored temporarily on the site of the Tallman Restorations, then relocated in 1972 on the Rock County Fairgrounds..." |
