Additional Information: | This two and one half story frame house features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a stucco foundation, a clapboard exterior, a wood trim and an asphalt shingled gable roof. Gothic Revival, Greek Revival and Italianate styles are represented in the design. The steeply pitched gable roof, hood molds with corbel stops, and gingerbread vergeboard are typically Gothic Revival. The recessed door with sidelights is typical of the Greek Revival style. The Italianate style is visible in the tall, thin first story windows. The residence is in good condition. It is architecturally significant in that it represents a type, period, or method of construction. This two and one-half story frame house features details from both the Greek Revival and the Gothic Revival styles. Its steeply-pitched roof and tall windows of the first floor reflect the Gothic Revival style. The second story six-over-six light sashes are typical of Greek Revival windows. The main entrance consists of a wooden door with narrow sidelights and transom with a plain wooden surround. Window openings are decorated with a simple wooden surround. Its very tall, very steep front gabled roof is unusual for its exaggerated pitch and height. Built in the mid-1850s, the house was owned by John Nichols, an attorney from the 1860s to the turn of the century. After the turn of the century, it was the home of John and Helen Manning until the mid-1920s. |
