Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the State Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. This 2 1/2 story, shingle and clapboard sided house is of the late Queen Anne style and shows the characteristics of this style in its asymetrical plan, roofline, and fenestration and in use of restrained Colonial Revival rather than elaborate detail. The gables are shingled and pierced by double windows with latticed mountings. The primary leg of the ell is chamfered with the gable overhang supported by spindle-work brackets. A massive fieldstone veranda spans the primary of the ell, fills the void between the two legs, and terminates in a circular section (perhaps a conservatory) which wraps the corner of the other leg of the ell. Because of this, this building shows the transition in styles from the late 19th century through the Craftsman period of the early 20th. No improvements existed on the above described property in 1890. City assessors valued the lots at $225. William Reynolds owned the site in 1900. Reynolds built a residence on his property, thereby incrasing its value to $2,000. William Reynolds was Edward Reynold's brother. William became the Manager of the Reynolds Preserving Company in 1895 when the business opened. The company owned considerable farmland, which is devoted to fruit growing. |
