NOTES
Additional Information:This two story brick house, typical of many houses in the Janesville area, has a cross-gable low-pitch roof, wide eaves, jack-arched window hoods, stone sills, and a high basement. The residence is in good condition. It is architecturally significant because it represents a type, period, or method of construction. The building was formerly a single family dwelling, but now serves as a four-unit apartment. Duane V. Rath owned it in 1982. Historical Statement: The style of this house suggests that it was built in about 1870. (See Bib. Ref. A). The 1873 atlas of Rock County lists W. B. Baines as the owner of this house. The atlas further notes that Baines was a native of England who settled in the area in 1865. A historical marker (photo 58/7 - separate record) erroneously labels this house as the Frances E. Willard House. 1816 South River Road (map code RO-58/8) in Janesville is her correct home.
