Additional Information: | This two-story brick house is an example of the vernacular, square-in-plan, pyramidal roofed style common throughout the City. It is one of only three somewhat similar houses (two-story) in the City. (950 Pennsylvania, 79 W. Oak). A newer, enclosed entry porch and garage at the side have been added. Despite the modifications, this building is of some interest as an example of a variation on a once common building type within the City. A curious detail is the fact that the first story is of brick laid in common bond (indicative of a solid masonry wall) while the upper story isunbonded (indicative of veneer). Perhaps this is an early one-story, vernacular structure to which a second story was added. |
