NOTES
Additional Information:This tri-gabled ell house is in the Wisconsin vernacular style--a simple, gabled configuration and the absence of extensive ornate detailing. Two features are of itnerest--The double windows which are found in both levels of the primary facade with their broad (and gabled at the second level) surrounds, and the wrap-around porch with the gabled accent at the entry. The only modifications to this largely intact and well maintained house are the reroofing with asphalt shingles and the cladding of the porch gable and railing with a clapboard material slightly wider than the original beaded siding found on the remainder of the house. As such, this two story house is an excellent example of a once common local building style that has been relatively unaltered from the original. This site was not covered by Sanborn Perris Maps until 1911. Block 29 was unimproved and valued at $20.00 in 1900. In 1903 Charles Reynolds came into possession of Lot 7 and he constructed $1200 worth of improvements upon it. Reynolds construction increased the value of the property to $1600. Charles Reynolds became identified with the lumber business at Sturgeon Bay in 1888. He became head of the Reynolds Lumber Company in partnership with his son, Edward. The Reynolds Lumber Company eventually pioneered the packing of fruit.
