NOTES
Additional Information:This 1 1/2 story, craftsman style house is symetrical in plan and is acdented with Colonial Revival detailing interpreted in the Craftsman style. The centrla dormer and the eaves of the main roof show exposed rafter ends, the upper sash of the paird and triple windows are glazed with small lights, and the entry door is surrounded by sidelights and a fanlight above. False blinds stop the window spread and the entry is protected by an arched porch roof supported by ufluted columns. This is the finest example of this style within the District and the original architectural integrity of this well maintained building has not been compromised. Sanborn Perris Map Data for this area is not available prior to 1928. Gideon W. Allen had possession of Lot 17 in Sudivision 25 since the formation of the City in 1884. Allen was the spiritual leader of the Democratic party in Sturgeon Bay, and very much a loner. He sold various parcels of land as the years passed. Allen had a home on the property which he kept until 1913, when he died. After Allen's death, the property was in possession of the Allen Estate. In 1919 Walter J. Oertling acquired the above described portion of lot 17. In 1920 Oertling completed a residence valued at $1350 on the property.
