NOTES
Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This two story commercial building features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a brick exterior, a metal trim and a flat roof. Elements of the Italianate style are exhibited, including a bracketed and dentil trimmed metal cornice, brick corbelling, and segmentally arched second story windows with decorative window hoods. The building is in good condition. It is architecturally significant in that it represents a type, period, or method of construction. Historical Statement: This building was constructed on land owned by Bernard J. Daly. (See Bib. Ref. A). In 1884, a grocery was located at the site. In 1903, William A. Knipp had a saloon here, and J. T. Waggoner & Co. operated a second hand goods business. The building is historically significant because it is associated with the development of commerce in Janesville.
