Additional Information:A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. This two story commercial building features a rectangular shaped plan configuration, a brick exterior, a metal and wood trim, and a flat roof. Projecting forward on the facade is a bracketed and dentil trimmed metal cornice, beneath which is brick corbelling. Vertical brick piers and two oriel windows accentuate a symmetrical allignment. The building is in good condition. It is architecturally significant in that it represents a type, period or method of construction.

Historical Statement:

This building was constructed in about 1905 on land owned by M. G. Jeffris. (See Bib. Ref. A). The Taylor brothers operated a grocery business in this building for a number of years. (See Bib. Ref. B). The Klein Block, or the Taylor Brothers Grocery building, is historically significant because of its association with the development of commerce in Janesville.
