Additional Information: | This large, 2 1/2 story residence is in the late Queen Anne or "Princes Anne" style with symetrical massing and simplified classical detailing. While the lower stories are clad with recent asbestos siding, the gable level is decorated with fancy butt shingles in alternating rows of hexagonal and semicircular designs. A corner tower, circular in plan, highlights the primary facade and gives a distinctiveness to the main roofline with its shallow, conical roof. A wraparound porch spans the front and east sides of thsi house and is protected by a roof supported by columns in the tuscan mode. A balustrade madeup of turned banisters accents the porch. Despite the modifications, this building remains of architectural interest as an example of a once common residential style. Isidor Brandeis was a partner in the firm of Teweles & Brandeis (AHI# 50146). Since first surveyed in 1982, the asbestos siding has been removed and the clapboard underneath is now visible (2015). |
