NOTES
Additional Information: THIS SMALL, ONE-STORY CHURCH IS DESIGNED WITH A SQUARE PLAN CONFIGURATION, A BRICK EXTERIOR AND A HIPPED ROOF. DOMINATING THE FRONT IS A CENTERED, PROJECTING TOWER CAPPED BY A SPIRE. THIS TOWER ALSO HOUSES THE ENTRANCE BAY. THE HIPPED ROOF IS BROKEN BY GABLES. SEGMENTAL AND POINTED ARCH WINDOWS APPEAR THROUGHOUT. THE CHURCH, BUILT IN 1913 WITH ADDITIONS MADE SUBSEQUENTLY, IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. (SEE BIB. REF. A). HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: DODGEVILLE'S GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH WAS FOUNDED IN 1906 AND THIS BRICK CHURCH, DESIGNED BY ANDREW HENDRICKSON, WAS ERECTED SEVEN YEARS LATER. THE ORGANIZATION OF THE LUTHERAN CONGREGATION REFLECTED THE ADDITION OF NORWEGIAN IMMIGRANTS TO THE CITY'S POPULATION. (SEE BIB. REF. A). IN 1958, THE GRACE LUTHERAN CONGREGATION BUILT A NEW CHURCH ON THE NORTHERN EDGE OF THE CITY. (SEE BIB. REF. A).
