Additional Information: | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. Clapboard is the exterior fabric on this 1 1/2 story residence with "shingle-ish" style details. The roof is gabled. There is a box cornice and a plain frieze under the eaves. The front gable is pedimented. A box oriel window with a hip roof is on the front top story. Below this is a box bay with a three part picture window. Wood shingles and fishscales (unpainted or brown stain) are under the windows. They are also in the front gable and on a pent roof on the west side of the house. The front roof line is a hip roof, this intersects with a gable roof. The front part of the roof, which covers the porch and acts as a pent roof also, has wood shingles and fishscales. The porch is on the NE corner. There is some sawn wood ornament under the eaves here. Lattice work and rock faced supports form the base. Columns and railing look like new wood. The east side of the house has a gable dormer and a redwood deck porch. The garage is detached. The styling on this building is interesting but there have been porch and window alterations. It looks out of place when the wood shingled porch roof intersedts with the asphalt shingled house roof. Either the house or roof has been changed or the wood shingles are a later addition. This residence has no outstanding characteristics that would give it architectural significance. |
