Additional Information: | Leaded glass transoms; stone cornice below roofline; elevation terminates in stepped element with stone coping and heraldic crest at center. Another modest vernacular commercial structure giving testimony to commercial design during the period of significance is the Plier grocery store. Built in 1928, the building is simply detailed with a stone cornice beneath a stepped roofline crowned with a crested shield. The windows are banded, giving evidence of skeletal frame advances and the corresponding new aesthetic. Carl Plier had a grocery store on this sitie as early as 1922, but had a new building constructed in 1928. Tax application 2/1989. 2017: New storefront windows and new second-floor windows. |
