Additional Information: | 2021 - resurveyed, appearance mostly unchanged. Replacement windows and siding on the two-story rear portion of the building. No longer functions as a tavern/bar. Appears to be a residence. The building is a vernacular front gabled building constructed in 1889. It was a schoolhouse (District No. 1 School) before becoming a tavern/bar at some point following rural school consolidation. At the time of survey, the building appeared to be unused/vacant. The one-story building has a rectangular footprint, concrete foundation, wide gauge aluminum siding, and a front gabled roof. Spanning the width of the north facade is an enclosed entry porch addition with a hipped roof and stone veneer cladding. On the front gable above the porch is a recessed panel that reads, “Dist. No. 1 1889.” On the east and west side elevations are replacement one-over-one sash windows. At the rear of the building is a two-story side gabled addition, which appears to be an attached living space. |
