NOTES
Additional Information:"The two story cream colored brick commercial building has brick corbelling, stilted arch windows, and an altered storefront. The windows of the northeast section are boarded up.

Joseph Lehrer was born in 1864 and educated in Bohemia. He came to Appleton in 1882 where he learned the butcher trade, which he followed at various places. He settled in Kaukauna in 1884, lived in Idaho from 1886-87, then returned to Kaukauna in 1895 when he opened an establishment of his own. Regarded as a substantial businessman, his meat market was one of the oldest on the vicinity and "finest in the state."

Built between 1882-92 it is not known what the first owner, Michael Kircher, used the structure for. From 1896 - circa 1901 Joseph ran a meat market with Reinhold Lehrer, then ran it independently until sons Maurice A. and Sylvester F. took it over. Sons Joseph and Richard had their own road contractor partnership. The family lived above the store until 1952 when R.J. Rennicke bought it for use as the present liquor store."
